Overview of the Position 

As a part of the Pro-Life Generation, Students for Life of America is seeking a Director of Strategic Initiatives to provide high-level leadership, vision, and execution for several of SFLA’s key initiatives, including Campaign for Abortion Free Cities, Standing With You, and the Demetree Institute for Pro-Life Advancement.

The Director of Strategic Initiatives will oversee a growing team, translate the President’s vision into executable strategies, and ensure each initiative is positioned for long-term impact, growth, and alignment with SFLA’s mission. This role requires a strong leader who is strategic, organized, collaborative, innovative, and able to manage complex, multi-faceted programs. The ideal candidate will have experience building grassroots teams and mobilizing volunteers.

Responsibilities  

Leadership & Team Management 

  • Provide direct supervision and leadership to the Strategic Initiatives team, including:
  • Standing With You Manager
  • Abortion Free Cities Manager
  • Demetree Institute for Pro-Life Advancement (IPA) Research Coordinator
  • Strategic Initiatives Executive Assistant
  • Foster a culture of excellence, accountability, collaboration, and mission alignment across the team.
  • Conduct regular check-ins, goal-setting, performance reviews, and professional development planning for direct reports.
  • Work cross-functionally with other departments to ensure initiatives are well-integrated across SFLA.

Strategic Planning & Vision Execution 

  • Develop and implement comprehensive strategic plans to execute the President’s vision for each initiative.
  • Translate high-level organizational goals into clear objectives, timelines, and deliverables for each program.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation, growth, and improvement across Strategic Initiatives.
  • Track progress and outcomes, adjusting strategies as needed to maximize effectiveness.

Marketing & Communications Oversight 

  • Create, review, and submit marketing plans for each initiative, ensuring plans are thorough, strategic, and aligned with organizational priorities.
  • Ensure marketing plans include clear goals, target audiences, messaging, timelines, and success metrics.
  • Write and review marketing and communications materials to ensure they are appropriate for the intended audience, visually compelling, and on-brand.
  •  Speak and present to coalition partners and in communities to motivate volunteers
  • Collaborate closely with the Communications and Marketing teams to ensure consistent messaging and effective promotion.

Initiative-Specific Responsibilities 

Campaign for Abortion Free Cities 

  • Lead the growth and strategic development of the Campaign for Abortion Free Cities.
  • Work closely with the President and Abortion Free Cities Manager to reimagine and strengthen the campaign’s vision, structure, and impact.
  • Ensure the campaign is scalable, well-supported, and effectively resourced.
  • Oversee strategic partnerships, messaging, and expansion efforts related to Abortion Free Cities.

Standing With You 

  • Provide strategic oversight and leadership to the Standing With You initiative.
  • Ensure the program effectively supports pregnant and parenting students and advances SFLA’s mission.
  • Guide the development of systems, resources, and partnerships that strengthen the initiative’s reach and credibility.
  • Support the Standing With You Manager in setting priorities, measuring impact, and expanding the program’s influence.

Demetree Institute for Pro-Life Advancement 

  • Oversee the strategic direction and growth of the Demetree Institute for Pro-Life Advancement.
  • Ensure research, training, and educational efforts are mission-aligned, high-quality, and strategically deployed.
  • Support the IPA Research Coordinator in executing research priorities and advancing thought leadership within the pro-life movement.
  • Identify opportunities to integrate IPA work with other SFLA initiatives and campaigns.

Position Details 

Position Type 

  • This is a full-time salaried position working at least 40 hours per week. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, with some weekend work for events and other related travel.

Physical Demands 

  • Must have the ability to operate technical equipment such as a computer and sit for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to withstand long periods of driving.
  • Other physical demands may include: setting up displays, walking around campuses, standing during display times, walking outside for long periods of time (door to door canvassing) and participating in local and national pro-life marches. Must be able to lift 30 pounds.

Travel 

  • Travel to bi-annual team trainings in January and July is required
  • This position will require travel to various cities for the Campaign for Abortion Free Cities, coalition building, and other events.

Work Authorization 

  • Must be able to successfully complete an I-9.  The I-9 is used for verifying the identity and employment authorization of individuals hired for employment in the United States.

Qualifications 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Candidates must have knowledge of grammar rules and utilize the oxford comma.
  • Strong writing, editing, and research skills.
  • Experience in marketing, communications, or legislative affairs is a plus.
  • Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new tasks and environments.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Strong communication, speaking, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to translate vision into community building, recruiting, motivating, and supporting leaders & groups.

Who Are We Looking For 

  • A positive attitude, good problem-solving skills, and a passion for serving in the pro-life mission are a must.
  • Must be teachable to learn SFLA technologies and platforms like Salesforce, Asana, Microsoft Teams.
  • This position requires a lot of daily conference calls so an ideal candidate must be able to multi-task while participating in calls but keeping on top of incoming emails and messages.
  • Candidates must be self-motivated, a good problem solver, have an entrepreneurial spirit, expert multi-tasker, maintain confidentiality, able to work independently, and be a highly-organized person.
