Summary

Students for Life Action seeking Legislative Assistants to help SFLAction staff in leading our legislative efforts, dedicated to our state objectives.  Our grassroots team uses various political technologies to communicate with legislators including petition gathering, direct lobbying days, door to door canvassing, letter writing campaigns, social media outreach and other tactics. This role requires significant recruitment and management that the legislative assistant will assist with.

The Legislative Assistant will work closely with SFLAction Staff, with a focus on preparing for and assisting with legislative efforts in one or two dedicated states.

This contract will begin August 1, 2024, and ends June 4, 2025

Candidates must live in the state of Nebraska and be willing to occasionally travel. 

Expanded Functions for the Legislative Assistant to include

  • Assist with recruitment for student activities in various states for lobby days and door to door efforts, including fall deployments
  • Assist with the planning and execution of Lobby Days
  • Assist with preparation of 5-column analysis
  • Phone and email outreach to schedule appointments with state legislators
  • Assist with phone number confirmation of targeted legislators in targeted states
  • Assist with program preparation – voicemail recording, research, excel list management
  • Conduct research on legislators in preparation for running program
  • Assist with additional general election program for targeted states
  • Assist in the drafting of communications programs (emails, text messages, blogs) to advance SFLAction’s legislative agenda
  • Assist with administrative tasks, marketing & press tasks, and social media tracking and engagement
  • Continued grassroots outreach to allied groups, elected officials, and prolife activists

Competencies

  • Ability to stay organized, prioritize work, and demonstrate professionalism of SFLAction.
  • Able to work with partners outside of the organization and within Students for Life of America and Students for Life Action to execute all goals.
  • Experience working in the pro-life movement
  • Well versed in Microsoft Office

Supervisory Responsibility

Stay in constant contact with SFLAction staff. The hours are flexible, but must be approved and tracked carefully. This position may supervise volunteers and interns in some situations.

Work Environment

This is a part-time employee position, working remotely, but in constant contact with SFLAction staff. The hours are flexible, but this person should aim to join regular conference calls.

Physical Demands

Employees may join special opportunities like deployments, canvassing will require significant amounts of walking often. Applicants should also have reliable transportation and a cell phone plan.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

Employees will work up to 20 hours a week, based on work assigned.

Travel

Employees may travel occasionally for large projects and tasks.

Required Education and Experience

1 to 2 years political activism and/or involvement in student organizations

Work Authorization

Must be able to successfully complete an I-9.  The I-9 is used for verifying the identity and employment authorization of individuals hired for employment in the United States.
