Expect Hope, a Christ-centered residential program for unsupported, expectant women, provides a safe residence for mothers who desire to prepare a life for their new families. It is a privately funded, nonprofit organization serving women in the Bronx, New York. The House Staff is a living testament of the mission and vision of Expect Hope. They are key in developing resident character, entailing constant mentoring, role-modeling, and advising. House staff daily serves, supports, loves and supervises young women, modeling a healthy, whole, Christ-centered home. Resident Directors set and maintain healthy boundaries and loving relationships for residents within a warm, home environment.
The Resident Director position is both challenging and rewarding. Resident Directors must handle stress well and exercise self-control. They must have the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently and to organize their work to meet deadlines. Successful Resident Directors must be able to effectively interact with sensitivity and responsiveness to diversity including cultural differences. Understanding mothers and their behaviors is crucial, and being able to encourage, challenge, and motivate them in a positive and effective way is core to this position.
The Resident Director responsibilities include supervising daily house management, creating a nurturing and warm environment for the mothers and babies, ensuring that residents complete household responsibilities, and enforcing house policies by correcting and teaching residents and giving consequences when necessary. The Resident Director will mentor and disciple residents as well as educate them in the area of life skills and parenting skills. The Resident Director must be able to work and thrive in a highly collaborative environment. Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
