Planned Parenthood in Orlando, Florida was found storing expired medications on the emergency crash cart, in addition to storing biohazard specimens in the same refrigerator as medications. This location of was then closed due to the gross negligence of medical safety procedures, sparing the lives of countless preborn children.

This location of Planned Parenthood not only failed to properly clean the equipment they were supposed to use to sterilize their instruments, but they did not even have a procedure of HOW it was to be done, or records of the last time the equipment was thoroughly cleaned. This equipment comes with specific cleaning and mold prevention steps from the manufacturer that the PP either willfully ignored or was unaware of.

Facility details:

• Facility Manager Candace Dye has a criminal background including robbery, drugs, assault, and a prison sentence.
• In 2000, sidewalk counselors filed suit against facility staff, alleging they engaged in harassment and death threats. 

Based on a 2012 inspection report:

• Resuscitation bags had not been checked since 2009.
• An oxygen tank with a sticker noting it had last been checked in 2010.
• The facility manager acknowledged to the inspector that indeed, there were “no policies” for the maintenance of “patient monitoring equipment, anesthesia, surgical equipment, and all surgical instruments."
• Policy manual lacks a section on the requirement to ensure that employees receive proper training and are capable of providing appropriate service and supervision to patients. The LPN on staff was working with a license that the State of Florida had designated as “under emergency suspension” and “not approved to engage in nursing practice.” Additionally, said employee was restricted (again, by the State of Florida) from access to narcotics which at this abortion facility, are stored under lock and key in a “tackle box on a cart in the procedure room.”
• During an observation during a series of abortions, the State inspector noted an unidentified male carrying women back and forth when they were unable to walk on their own. The inspector questioned the administrator as to his role and qualifications, and whether or not he was a member of the staff with a personnel file. The administrator replied, “No, but he does have a Home Health Aide certificate” but she doesn’t know where it is because he got it  "a long time ago.” The same man was observed signing documents as "Lab Tech." Further investigation revealed that Lab Tech also is responsible for obtaining the specimen bottle after the procedure (containing the dead child) and verifying that all of the body parts are present. He then takes each container of remains and places it in a Ziploc bag with the mother's name on it. Lab Tech, with his supreme qualifications as a Home Health Aide (we think) then cleans the specimen bottles, returns them to the doctor, and then cleans and sterilizes all the surgical instruments.

• "A Woman’s World Medical Center in Fort Pierce, Fla., filled 68 pages with violations over the course of five inspections. A Woman’s World was cited twice in about a year for failing to maintain sterilized, functioning instruments. The vital signs of patients receiving second-trimester abortions went unmonitored. Administrative assistants without proper certification performed ultrasound examinations on women. The clinic lacked written procedures, including for preventative maintenance, pre- and post-operative care, emergency measures, incident reports, and medical-record keeping. And it was cited twice for lacking orientation and in-service training."
